I finally received a call from the Midwest representative for NCFI. His name is Mike and can be reached at (336) 529-0008. He told me about the insulation and prices. Currently prices are around $1.10-$1.25 per square foot. But these prices can vary since they are tied in with the oil industry. Mike said that with any luck we could get the price down to $1 per square foot.

I looked into the cotton insulation that was mentioned before and it seems like the choice is limited to Ultratouch. This comes in batts, is made of recycled newspapers, and jeans. They are benign so are therefore easy to handle. They are fire retardant, and impedes the growth of fungus and mold. I have included a data sheet in the wiki which contains prices for the Ultratouch.
