From a Rockford barn to the Washington Mall - Daniel

After weeks of deep scrubbing, scraping, and cutting, the smell of fresh animal excrement has begun to fade from the reclaimed barn board.

With approximately 120 boards, the process of preparing the siding has not been quick, though it has been very rewarding. After each step, the 80 year old wood appears more and more timeless, forcing all of us to question the construction industry's ease of "trashing" old buildings.

As we wrap up the process, preparing to stain and paint the boards before assembling them on the house, Bruce and I would like to thank all those who have participated in preparing the siding. We would also like to remind everyone of the importance of keeping the shop clean and organized, so to limit the footprint of our work in the school and keep the process as seamless as possible.
