Camden Greenlee: There is a strong connection between myself and my family and this barn behind us. This is the Greenlee farm, it's been in my family for a few generations.
Mark Taylor: It's been a great opportunity for the students to come and see a barn, and what we are particularly doing here is salvaging some of that material. We are very interested in the environment and the materials that go into the building [Gable Home] so one of the inspirations has been, what can we recycle.
Camden: In a few years this place [barn] won't exist anymore. That's really one of the things that's important about coming here now and getting this wood, is that we can take can take a part of it with us.
Mark: This is how the boards came off the barn, the first part is scraping off the real loose stuff.
Student: This wood is amazing wood and it's very strong and durable, and right now we bring it here into our workshop and we're sanding it and we'll seal it.
Mark: As a University of Illinois project, I think it's really important that students work with industry that is local to them. And this is the perfect opportunity to do that, where their drawings become reality.
Steve Venden: They wanted us to try and incorporate our manufacturing process into a project that could be a Passive solar home.
Homeway Homes Employee: We decided that we're going to go for it, we're going do our design work and help the university with this project.
Brian Schiler: We are here today at Champaign, at the University of Illinois, to set the solar decathlon house.
*Views of construction*
Charles Murray: These solar panel are some of the most efficient in the industry, it's a very clean, crisp look.
*Views from public tours*
Mark: Today we've finally set of to the first step, going to D.C. We've packed up everything.
Team: Illinois! Go Illini!

Text Description

The time-lapse video shows the installation of the Solar Panels on the Gable Home. The process took a couple of days as the electrical engineering students had to test the hardware and wiring and order new parts when needed. One of the students secured the panels one by one on the roof while the other student passed the panels and necessary tools and assisted in fastening the panels to the roof. All this done while dealing with occasional bad weather.
